Witnesses

This four-star logic puzzle has 4 noun types, 10 nouns per type, 3 links, 109 facts, and no rules. It needs 600 marks and 6 grids. This puzzle can be solved without assumptions, but needs help from Level 2g. Before the first mark is entered by this level, the program finds 474/600 marks and 28/60 pairs. The facts still left are given below.

  1. Thompson was just before the dentist (clue 6).
  2. The mechanic was before, but not just before McNeil (clue 7).
  3. The bank teller was before, but not just before Zimmer (clue 9).
  4. Anne was just before Williams (clue 10).
  5. The pilot was just before Anne (clue 10).
  6. The programmer was not just before the secretary (clue 11).
  7. Mark was before, but not just before Betty (clue 13).

This is the situation for each noun in these facts.

Level 2g

The first mark found by this level involves facts 91 and 97, where the link for both facts have "Order" as the noun type. Mark 474, 'X' for 4th and McNeil, was in response to the question: If MacNeil is 4th, can the other three nouns in the two facts be placed with a noun of type "Order"?

Because all four nouns cannot be placed at the same time with a noun of type "Order", McNeil cannot be 4th. This level will be used to enter four more marks.

I can "testify" that this is a difficult logic puzzle.
